Joint News Release: Suspicious Fires

News Release on behalf of the Oak Bay Police Department and Saanich Police Department

August 7, 2018
________________________________________________________________

On July 26, 2018 Oak Bay Police investigated two suspicious fires in the 2000 block of Frederick Norris Rd in Oak Bay. By way of the service agreement that exists between the Oak Bay and Saanich Police Departments regarding these types of matters, the Saanich Police Department assumed conduct of the investigations.

“This is another great example of our very effective relationship with the Saanich Police
Department” said Oak Bay Deputy Police Chief Ray Bernoties. “These were small fires but the
community was understandably very concerned due to their location.”  During the course of the investigation a 25 year old Oak Bay woman was identified as a suspect for these
two arsons. On August 3, 2018 the suspect was located in Saanich and arrested for the two Oak Bay arsons. The suspect was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Victoria Integrated Court on August 7, 2018.

There are currently two other Oak Bay fires under investigation. Detectives will look at all available evidence to see if there’s any connection to this investigation.
