Weekly Media Release August 6-12, 2018

On August 7th, police received a report of theft from the 2700 Block of Burdick Ave. Sometime overnight, someone stole two “Slow” signs shaped like children. Valued at $40 each, they have the owner’s name and phone number on the bottom.

On August 7th, police responded to the 1400 block of Monterey Ave for a report of assault and theft. An Oak Bay Public Works staff member attended a work site and saw a male leaving the area with lengths of pipe destined for recycling. He challenged the male and began taking video of him. The male swung the pipes around, striking the staff member on the leg. No injury was sustained.  The male was last seen eastbound on Oak Bay Avenue. The matter is still under investigation.

On August 7th, police were called to the 2900 block of Oakdowne Road as, overnight, someone had dumped a bag of used hypodermic needles on the complainant’s lawn. The needles were taken to Royal Jubilee Hospital for disposal.  Please contact the OBPD if you have any information.

On August 7th, a theft from auto occurred in the 2000 block of Meadow Place.  The suspect entered the complainant’s vehicle and took a backpack containing a wallet, notebook and clothing.

On August 10th, police were called to the 1400 block of Beach Drive for a complaint of Mischief. Sometime overnight, someone damaged the intercom system to the apartment building. Due to the age of the system, it is estimated the cost may be up to $10,000 to replace.
