Weekly Media Release for Nov. 15 – Nov. 22, 2020

The Oak Bay Police Department reports 1 theft from automobile this week.

On November 20th the Oak Bay Police attended a single vehicle motor vehicle incident at the intersection of Cedar Hill Cross Road and Cadboro Bay Road.  The vehicle, driving eastbound on Cedar Hill Cross Road, drove onto the median as the driver was attempting to execute a turn and lost control of the vehicle. The 22-year-old male driver was issued a violation ticket for Drive without Consideration. (OB20-3669)

On November 19th and 20th the Oak Bay Police responded to three suspicious incidents involving three separate scams.  In the first occurrence, the complainant’s credit card was charged for an online purchase but the item did not arrive.  In the second occurrence the complainant was scammed $3300 believing that she was purchasing a puppy online.  The third incident involved identity theft and the suspect withdrew $3800 from the complainant’s bank account using the complainant’s driver license information and was able to answer the bank teller’s questions. The Oak Bay Police Department reminds all residents to be cognizant to whom they provide their personal information and to do their homework prior to making purchases online. On November 21st the Oak Bay Police received a report of a theft of a purse from an unlocked vehicle parked in the Oak Bay Recreation Centre parking lot at 9:45pm.  The Oak Bay Police Department reminds all residents to lock their vehicles at all times. (OB20-3675)

On November 22nd the Oak Bay Police attended the 3000 block of Beach Drive for a suspicious occurrence.  The complainant found a steel tip crossbow arrow on his front lawn.  (OB 20-3680)
