Weekly Media Release Jan 22-28, 2018

Thursday January 25th, 2018 (previously reported) at approximately 4:46 pm, the Oak Bay Police were called to a Break and Enter in progress at a residence located in the 2000 block Crescent Road, in Oak Bay. A female caller had called indicating that an intruder was fighting her husband, and then the phone was disconnected. Oak Bay Police attended and found the homeowner restraining an intruder on the rear porch of the residence. The intruder was arrested and charged with numerous counts including Break and Enter, Assault, Theft and Failing to Comply with Court imposed Conditions.

On Friday January 26th, 2018, at approximately 8:35 am, the Oak Bay Police were dispatched to parking lot 10 at the University of Victoria Campus located at 3800 Finnerty Road, regarding a potential theft from a parking machine. Unknown person(s) had attempted to break into the parking meter dispenser. The investigation is ongoing and Oak Bay Police are requesting anyone who may have witnessed this event to contact police.

On Sunday January 28th, at 06:48 am, Oak Bay Police assisted Saanich PD by locating a 7 year old child with special needs that was lost after wandering away from home, running in traffic. Officers located the child who was cold and wet and appeared scared. After providing her with a jacket, hot chocolate and a muffin, she was reunited with her mother and additional measures have been taken in the home to prevent a reoccurrence. (It would be inappropriate for me to give even a general location as that could identify the child in this case. Thanks for your understanding.)

“It is very common for officers to assist neighbouring jurisdictions and certainly, whenever there is a call involving a child at risk, officers from all jurisdictions drop everything to assist.”  Deputy Chief Ray Bernoties
