On January 7th, Oak Bay Police responded to a report of arson in the Frederick Norris area. A suspect was identified and arrested. The suspect was held in custody pending the first court appearance on January 15th.
Also on January 7th, Oak Bay Police responded to a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Foul Bay Rd/Cadboro Bay Rd. The pedestrian was transported to hospital with minor injuries and the driver was issued a violation ticket.
On January 8th, in the afternoon, the Oak Bay Police responded to a report of an agitated male carrying a pick axe along Oak Bay Avenue. The agitated male would not respond to police commands and was eventually taken into custody. The male was under the influence of drugs and suffering from a mental illness. He was transported to hospital where he was held under the Mental Health Act for further assessment.
On January 11th, a motor vehicle was stolen from a residence in the 3000 block of Lansdowne Rd. The suspect was able to obtain the ignition keys by way of an unlocked front door. The vehicle has not been recovered yet.
On January 13th, in the early morning hours, the Oak Bay Police responded to a report of a possible domestic dispute near Foul Bay Rd/ Carrick St. It turned out the female was in fact suffering from a mental health breakdown. She was assisted by the officer (who is also a licensed paramedic).
On January 13th in the evening a motor vehicle was stopped along Beach Drive. The investigation determined the driver was impaired by alcohol and arrested. The driver was subsequently issued a 90-Day immediate roadside prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
