Weekly Media Release July 17-24, 2017

On July 19th on Henderson Rd, a driver opened their door into the path of a passing cyclist. The 45-year-old male cyclist was initially unconscious but came to while being tended to by Oak Bay Fire Department. The cyclist was transported to hospital and released later that same afternoon with a concussion and bruising. Fortunately, the cyclist was wearing a helmet.

On July 19th, shortly before 10pm, there was a three vehicle MVI in the 2100 block of Cedar Hill Cross Road. A west bound Honda CRV was rolled onto its side after striking an unoccupied, parked Acura RSX. The Acura was pushed forward into another unoccupied vehicle. The 82-year-old female driver was assisted from the overturned car by Oak Bay Fire and BC Ambulance medics and transported to hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries. Alcohol consumption may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

On July 22nd officers encountered a disturbed male in the 2100 block of Oak Bay Ave. The male ran into traffic and slammed his fist on a patrol car while ranting at the top of his voice. Officers were able to apprehend the male under the mental health without incident. He was transported to hospital for treatment.

On July 22 Oak Bay Police were advised of the theft of two Cellos from the music building at U Vic. The instruments were stolen from secure lockers and police are looking for further information. Monetary value of the instruments is considerable. One had a bright red custom case.

Sometime overnight on July 22nd/23rd, a vehicle was sideswiped while parked in the 1100 block of Victoria Ave. Vehicle parts left behind indicate that the suspect vehicle might be a 1989 to 1991 Volvo 240. Drivers are reminded that it is an offence under both the Criminal Code of Canada and the Motor Vehicle Act to leave the scene of a crash without providing your name, address and other particulars and, in the case of a crash causing injury, whatever assistance you’re able to provide.
