Weekly Media Release July 24-30, 2017

On July 25th, in the 1300 block of Beach Drive a driver was a 24-hr roadside suspension for consuming liquor between 0.50-0.59 mg%. Their driver’s licence was seized for 24 hours.

On July 25th, a homeowner observed an intoxicated female on her property in the 2300 block of Oak Bay Avenue. Police attended and noted the 44-year old female was intoxicated and had difficulty providing her personal contact information. A bottle of vodka was found in her possession and as a precautionary measure the female was transported to the hospital for a routine assessment.

On July 27th, a female victim informed police that she was assaulted by her boyfriend in a residence in the 2700 block of Foul Bay Road. The male suspect fled the scene and the police received information that he left Vancouver Island. The female victim required medical attention and she subsequently was transported to the Royal Jubilee Hospital where she was discharged in the morning. Police provided a victim services referral, other support services as well as a bus ticket to another province to stay with a family member which was funded by the Victim Assistance Program. The Oak Bay Police Department has completed a Report to Crown Counsel requesting numerous Criminal Charges and Warrant has been requested for his arrest. The Oak Bay Police Department also disseminated the criminal investigation to the Real Time Intelligence Centre for the Province of British Columbia as an extra measure in attempt to apprehend this suspect.

On July 27th, the police responded to an overnight theft from a motor vehicle in the 500 block of Hampshire Road. The registered owner left their wallet in plain view on top of the centre console. The culprit smashed the driver’s side window and stole the owner’s wallet which had his identification and some cash.
