Weekly Media Release June 5 – 11, 2017

On June 5th, during routine patrol a motorcycle’s licence plate was queried in the 2000 block of Cedar Hill Cross Road. Police records showed that the registered owner was to be served a prohibition notice for four months pursuant to Section 93(1)(a)(ii) of the Motor Vehicle Act. The operator of the motorcycle was served his prohibition notice.

On June 7th, the Oak Bay Police Department receive a mischief complaint to a vehicle in the 1200 block of Transit Road. The registered owner noted in the morning that the right side middle window was smashed and access was not gained into the vehicle and therefore , nothing was stolen.

On June 7th, an unlocked vehicle was entered overnight in the 3400 block of Cardiff Place. The vehicle was parked in their driveway and the glove box was rummaged through and approximately $5.00 in change was stolen.

On June 7th, another unlocked vehicle was entered overnight in the 3300 block of Henderson Road. The contents in the glove box were strewn about inside the vehicle and some loose change was stolen.

On June 7th, the police received a third report of an overnight theft from two unlocked vehicles on the same property in the 3000 block of Woodburn Avenue. The first vehicle had nothing stolen, however documents were strewn about in the interior. The second vehicle rear sliding window was unlocked and the latch was broken and the culprit stole the following items:

– Inexpensive sunglasses and a pair of JBL headphones (approximate value $100.00)

The homeowner also stated his shed was unlocked and the culprit stole a green Makita Impact Driver valued at $250.00.

On June 8th, the police responded to a two vehicle MVI in the 2200 block of Pacific Avenue. A large cubed truck was trying to negotiate his way between parked cars on the narrow roadway. Unfortunately, the driver of the truck side-swiped one of the unoccupied vehicles and ripped the front bumper off. The driver of the truck was issued a violation ticket for the related Motor Vehicle Act offence.

June 9th, a homeowner reported that some tools and a lacrosse stick were stolen from his basement in the 1200 block of Hewlett Place. The homeowner also stated that the culprit stole a large red metal tool box (weighing over 100 lbs) of Snap-On tools (socket set) valued at over $3000.00. Some of the tools are etched with the following word- “WA NEAL”. The culprit also stole a 1950’s white “Victoria Daily Columnist” canvas bag with black lettering on it.

On June 8th, the Oak Bay Police conducted a roadblock in the 1300 block of Beach Drive a
where officers issued a 3-day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRP) with a 3 -day vehicle impoundment as well a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) where their vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
