Weekly Media Release May 17 – May 24, 2021

On Monday, May 17th at approximately 2:00 am the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a commercial break and enter in the 2200 block of Oak Bay Avenue. The suspect used a drill to access the front door of the business. The suspect stole an undisclosed amount of cash. The police located two males nearby and obtained their identities, however they were released at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

On Thursday, May 20th, a patrol officer conducted a traffic stop in the 2700 block of Foul Bay Road for a vehicle that was speeding. The driver had an expired driver’s licence and was required to have ignition interlock. The driver was issued a violation ticket for both offences and the registered owner attended and drove the vehicle from the scene.

On Sunday, May 23rd, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a male that was passed out in the alley behind the Estevan Village. Upon arriving at the scene, the male was conscious, however he had 10 outstanding warrants out of the Comox Valley RCMP detachment. Incident to the lawful arrest, the male’s backpack was searched, the police seized several numerous markers and spray paint contrary to his court-imposed conditions. The male was arrested for breach of undertaking and was held in-custody for morning court to deal with his warrants and the breach.

On Sunday, May 23rd, the Oak Bay Police Department attended an overnight break and enter in an office building at UVIC. The suspect damaged a keypad and a door and cut a portion of drywall from a women’s washroom before encountering the cement behind the drywall. The suspect departed the scene prior to police arrival, however, the Forensic Identification Unit attended and the
file is still under investigation.

On Monday, May 24th, at about 6pm, a male was observed assaulting female in Bowker Creek Park and the female was screaming. Residents called police. Police attended immediately. The male fled on foot through several backyards. The police formed a perimeter around an area and the police dog came and tracked the male who was hiding on top of a shed. The male was arrested
without incident. The file is still under investigation with charges, including assault, pending.
