The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 79 calls for service this week. OB File #2013-1326 – Mischief to Vehicle Date: 2013-05-07 Sometime overnight an unknown culprit removed the “H” symbol from the front grill of a 2003 Honda Civic that was parked in the parking lot at UVic. The culprit also ripped off the driver’s side mirror. Date: 2013-05-10 They were several reports of vehicles being entered overnight in the area of Milton Rd., Yale St, and Foul Bay Rd. The unknown culprit is entering unlocked vehicles and looking for any valuables. In one instance the culprit stole a briefcase and a camera lens valued at approximately $800. The briefcase was recovered not too far away but not the camera lens. OB File #2013-1365 Date: 2013-05-10 A locked mountain bike was stolen from the park area adjacent to the Oak Bay Marina. The bike was locked to a picnic table at around 8:00 am. Shortly after 11:00 am the owner returned to find his bike had been stolen. The mountain bike is described as having a bright lime green Gary Fisher Interceptor frame and the rest of the bike was hand built. The value of the bike is approximately $1,000. School Zones: The school year is quickly coming to an end and with all the nice weather the kids are even more excited and sometimes unpredictable. School zones are in effect on a regular school day between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm. A driver must not exceed 30 km/h while approaching or passing the school building or grounds. Police are continually monitoring school zones to ensure all the kids get to school safely. If you are speeding in a school zone the minimum fine is $196. For everyone’s safety, please slow down. Willows School Bike Rodeo: On Friday, May 10, members of the Oak Bay Police Department together with the Willows Parent Advisory Committee held a bike rodeo at the school. Grade 4 students learned about bike safety and had the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills on three different courses.
