Weekly Media Release Oct. 11 – Oct. 18, 2020

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 72 calls for service this week.

On Sunday October 11, OBPD received a complaint of speeding vehicles on Cadboro Bay Rd at Estevan Ave. Police will be conducting speed enforcement as this location has generated a few complaints in the last few months.

On Tuesday October 13, OBPD members attended 2900 Beach Drive for a report of a 30-foot sailboat on the rocks at Cattle Point near the southern boat launch. Police were unable to access the vessel due to inclement weather conditions. The Coast Guard was notified and asked to inspect the vessel when the weather was suitable. Police notified the owner of the sailboat who made arrangements to have the boat and contents salvaged. 20-3262

On Thursday October 15, OBPD members were dispatched to the 1200 block of Roslyn Rd for a report of an erratic driver. The complainant reported that a male was driving a car erratically on Roslyn Rd in an apparent attempt to evade the animal control officers who wanted to speak to him about his dog running at large. The driver has been identified as a 67 year old male who resides in Victoria. This matter is still under investigation. Charges under the Motor Vehicle Act are anticipated. 20-3283

On Sunday October 18, at about 4:00 p.m., the Oak Bay Police Department was called to a break and enter to a residence in the 800 block of Hampshire Rd. The homeowner returned home to find that their residence had been broken into and a room had been rummaged through. The residence had been unlocked while the homeowner left for a short time. Jewellery and watches were taken from the residence. 20-3311
