The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 72 calls for service this week.
Disturbance/Weapons/Breach Probation/Obstruct Police Officer
On October 1, 2024, at approximately 2:25 am, the Oak Bay Police received a report of a male screaming loudly for the past 15 minutes near the 2000 block of Cadboro Bay Road. Officers attended the scene and found a male yelling profanity. The individual was arrested for causing a disturbance and refused to identify himself to the police.
Upon searching the male, officers discovered an axe and a knife in his possession. The male was later identified as 42-year-old Justin Eby, who was on probation with conditions prohibiting him from possessing knives or axes.
Eby was held by police for a bail hearing which resulted in charges for the following offenses:
- Causing a Disturbance (Section 175(1) of the Criminal Code)
- Two counts of Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public (Section 88(1) of the Criminal Code)
- Two counts of Failing to Comply with Probation (Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code)
- Obstructing a Peace Officer (Section 129(a) of the Criminal Code)
Eby was released by the court on a Release Order with numerous conditions and is scheduled to attend court on October 17, 2024. (OB File 24-2710)
Animal Call
On October 5, 2024, at approximately 12:10 pm, the Oak Bay Police received a report of an off-leash dog attacking a deer near Monterey Avenue and Brighton Avenue. Officers attended the scene and found the deer with a significant wound to its leg, although it was able to run away.
Victoria Animal Control Services were called to the scene and issued the dog’s owner several Municipal Tickets and a Dangerous Dog Notice. (OB File 24-2760)
