Candidate Requirements

You may be eligible as an exempt candidate if you:
  • are a currently serving member of a Canadian Police force, and
  • have successfully graduated from police training, and
  • have an exemplary service record

 

What does the exempt officer selection process involve?

YOUR APPLICATION WILL REMAIN PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL UNTIL THE REFERENCE CHECK AND BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION OF THE PROCESS

If you’re currently serving as a police officer,  you will go through a streamlined application process including the following steps:

    • Review of submitted application for basic suitability
    • Integrity and lifestyle questionnaire
    • Peer interview with members of the Department – sworn and civilian (can be completed remotely)
    • Psychological examination
    • Polygraph examination
    • Medical examination
    • Chief’s interview (can be completed remotely)
    • Background investigation

Once the background investigation stage is achieved, the following documentation will be required:

  • Copies of any training courses completed with current police agency
  • Two Letters of Reference:
    • One from a serving police officer commenting on your abilities
    • The second letter can be from another police officer or a person in your community
  • A recent Performance Appraisal
