Oak Bay Police File 2023-3346

Shortly before 11:00am this morning, Oak Bay Police received a report of a suspicious person sitting on a bench in Bowker Park twirling what appeared to be a small black handgun. Out of an abundance of caution, Oak Bay Police requested a “hold and secure” on the Oak Bay High School, and attached childcare facilities while the area was searched to locate the person.

The suspicious person was described as an Asian male, approximately 16 years old with longer black hair and wearing a grey jacket and light-coloured pants.

Bowker Creek Park and the surrounding areas were searched extensively by Oak Bay Police Officers and assisting members of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team, however the man was not located.

The school and daycare were released from the hold and secure once the surrounding area had been thoroughly searched.

There have been no further reports of this individual.

This matter is still under investigation.
