Media Release for the Week of October 21 to 27, 2024

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 91 calls for service this week.

Collision
On October 23, 2024, at 2:43 PM, the Oak Bay Police received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Oak Bay Ave near the intersection of Wilmot Pl. Two vehicles were traveling eastbound on Oak Bay Ave. The first vehicle stopped to allow two pedestrians to cross at a marked intersection. The second vehicle, following too closely, was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of the first vehicle. The driver of the first vehicle was checked by Emergency Health Services and was not transported to the hospital. The 22-year-old male driver of the second vehicle was also uninjured and was issued a Violation Ticket for Following Too Closely (Section 162(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act) with a fine of $109. The first vehicle sustained extensive damage, including full airbag deployment, and was towed from the scene. The second vehicle had minor front-end damage and was driven from the scene. Break and Enter/Mischief
On October 24, 2024, at 10:59 PM, the Oak Bay Police responded to a residential alarm in the 2000 block of Lansdowne Rd. Upon arrival, police found a 49-year-old woman inside the residence. She was arrested for break and enter and mischief. It was determined that she had broken a basement window with a rock to gain access and attempted to disable the alarm system by cutting its wires. The woman was held in custody for a bail hearing the following day. Crown Counsel charged Leslie Lampman with Mischief (Section 430(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada). Lampman was released by the courts on a Release Order and is scheduled to appear in court on November 4, 2024. (OB File 24-2952)
