Media Release: Possible Deer Shooting

On October 15th the Oak Bay Police received a report from a local resident of a suspected shooting of a deer. The resident states that a white van that was seen driving around their street at approximately 7:30 pm on the 14th, and there was a few deer gathered on the boulevard. The complainant then heard what they believed were gunshots and the deer scattered. They saw a large Buck run into their backyard possibly injured. No plate number was obtained from the van, but it was described as a late 80’s or 90’s white minivan with a sliding door and black trim.

The resident did look out and see the Buck struggling in the yard, but when they went to check on it a short time later, it was gone. There were obvious signs of blood loss from the deer, however the Buck is believed to have run off, and to this point it has not been located.

The incident is still under investigation and Conservation Officers have been advised and will work closely with the Oak Bay Police to try and identify the people responsible.
