Over this past week, Oak Bay Police responded to 94 calls for service. Of those 94 service calls, one residential break and enter, and four thefts from vehicles were reported. The residential break and enter occurred as a result of the home owner leaving the garage door partially open, allowing easy access to the garage. A bicycle, helmet and gloves were stolen.
On Sunday the 18 August, police were advised of a boater in distress off Mary Todd Island. Oak Bay Sea Rescue (OBSR) was contacted and as they were training in the area, they were able to rescue the boater from Mary Todd Island. The boater was wearing a life jacket and was attempting to swim to shore, however, the tide was pulled him further out to sea. Fortunately, as he was drifting past Mary Todd Island, he was able to make it to shore, where he was picked up by OBSR. OBSR also recovered the canoe.
Police also responded to seventeen false alarms over this past week. Those with alarms are reminded to review their alarm system procedures by ensuring the system is working properly, having a contact person on file with the alarm company and being certain that all know how to us it.
Other calls for service attended to by OBPD Members this past week include; bylaw complaints (noisy parties, and parking complaints), motor vehicle collisions, traffic (driving) complaints, and two animal calls.
