The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 49 calls for service this week.
On January 15, 2024, at 2027 hours, the Oak Bay Police were conducting speed on Beach Dr near Newport Ave, which is a posted 40km/h speed limit. Police observed a vehicle travelling Northbound and noted it to be travelling more than 40km/h. A Radar speed measuring device was used to capture the speed of the vehicle and it was travelling 87km/h. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was identified as a 25-year-old male. The vehicle insurance was also expired. The male was issued a Violation Ticket for Excessive Speed S. 148(1) MVA $368 and No Insurance S. 24(3)(b) $598, and his vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days. (OB 24-108)
On January 19, 2024, at approximately 0530 hours, the Oak Bay Police responded to a business alarm call in the 2100 block of Oak Bay Ave. Police attended and discovered a break and enter to the business. It appears the break and enter was interrupted and the suspect(s) were not able to make off with any items. The Forensic Identification Section from the Saanich Police Department was called to examine the scene. This matter is still under investigation. (OB 24-128)
