The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 115 calls for service this past week.
2023-1879 Suspicious Fire
On July 4th at 3:55am, Oak Bay Police were called by Oak Bay Fire Department regarding a fire in a dumpster behind a commercial property in the 2800 Block of Foul Bay Rd. The investigation to date has determined that the fire appears suspicious in nature. A small, late model, light coloured pickup truck, with two trash cans in the bed was seen in the area around the time of the fire starting. Oak Bay Police wish to speak to the driver of this vehicle who may be able to assist with the investigation or may be able to provide additional information. Police are seeking public assistance in identifying the vehicle (see photo), and the driver. This matter is still under investigation.

2023-2043 Break and Enter.
On July 17th, at 9:30 am, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of a break and enter to a business in the 2000 block of Cadboro Bay Rd. The business owner reported that sometime between 5:00pm on July 15th and 9:30 am, July 17th, someone had entered a storage unit and stole a few boxes of older computers and a large stainless-steel cart valued at $2000.00. The suspect caused approximately $1000.00 in damage to the storage unit. This investigation is on going.
2023-2047 Theft of Bicycle
On July 17th, at 11:25am, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of a theft of a men’s Giant Escape bicycle in the 1900 block of Bee St. The resident reported that they locked their bicycle in the bike rack at approximately 9:30am and upon their return at 11:45 am, noticed it was gone. A review of CCTV video identified a male arrive by foot and cut off the lock before riding off southbound on Bee St. The suspect wore a dark hoodie, grey pants, and a dark knapsack. The total value of loss is $1100.00. This investigation is ongoing.
2023-2059 Break and Enter.
On July 22nd, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of a break and enter in the 2100 block of Oak Bay Ave. The resident reported someone had broken into the building garage and stolen their black 2022 Rad Runner 5 electric bicycle valued at $2500.00. 2023-2060 Break and Enter.
On July 17th, at 4:55 am, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to an alarm to a business in the 2000 block of Oak Bay Ave. Upon police arrival, officers found a door pried open. Officers observed the food case had been targeted and the suspect stole $25.00 in sandwiches. This matter is still under investigation.
2023-2067 Theft from Auto.
On July 18th, at 12:31pm, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of a theft from an automobile in the 2000 block of Orchard Ave. The resident reported their unlocked vehicle had been entered overnight and a full length dark blue down jacket had been stolen. The jacket was valued at $400.00. No suspects have been identified.
2023-2077- Break and Enter
On July 19th at 10:00 am, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of a break and enter in the 2000 block of Haultain Ave. The complainant advised the break in had occurred over night on July 14th. The suspect gained entry through an unlocked building side door and stole a blue cloth wagon, valued at $100.00. This investigation is on going. The possible suspect is described as a middle-aged woman with dark hair. Photo of possible suspect attached.

2023-2084- Theft of Bicycle
On July 19th, at 9:00 am, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of a theft of bicycle in the 2000 block of Haultain Ave. The complainant reported their red and orange coloured Giant Reign One bicycle was stolen from their vehicle bicycle rack. The resident reported they were readying themselves for a bike trip up island when they were notified by a neighbour the theft had occurred. The witness described the suspect as a man in his 30’s, dark skinned, slender, clean shaven and wearing dark clothing, and a ball cap. The bicycle was valued at $850.00 This investigation is ongoing.
2023-2099 Break and Enter.
On July 20th at 9:28 am, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of a break and enter to a business in the 2700 block of Dalhousie St. The manager reported upon opening that morning they observed the main serving counter window had been pried open. Missing was several platters of muffins and baked goods. The approximate value of the food stolen was $250.00. No suspects have been identified.
2023-2107- Fraud
On July 20th, at 7:00pm, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of a fraud in the 2100 block of Beaverbrooke St. The resident reported they received a phone call from someone stating they were an employee of CIBC. The caller convinced the resident to provide them with access to their account and charged $191.26 to an online service called Book.me. The resident became concerned and disconnected the call. The complainant has cancelled their debit card and has notified their bank and credit bureaus.
2023-2114 Impaired Driver.
On July 21st, at 7:00am, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of an impaired driver in the 200 block of King George Terrace. Upon arrival, police were advised by BC-EHS they were called to a male passed out behind the seat of their car. EHS determined it was not a medical issue. Police conducted a breath test on an approved roadside screening device and the 24-year-old male failed the test. As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was seized for 30 days.
