The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 80 calls for service this past week.
24-1940 Mischief
On July 24, 2024, Oak Bay Police attended the Multifaith Centre located at the University of Victoria for reports of a mischief. Staff at the Centre advised that between 6:00am and 12:30pm an unknown person(s) had entered the building and defecated in multiple locations inside the building. Feces were found in the washroom off the main lobby and in the meditation room. Campus Security and Oak Bay Police are working collaboratively to enhance security measures at the Multifaith Centre and the incident is still under investigation.
24-1947 Theft of Vehicle
On July 25, 2024, Oak Bay Police attended Oak Bay High School for report of a stolen vehicle. School staff advised that a vehicle which had been donated to the school for their auto shop was stolen between June 30 and July 21. During the investigation it was determined that the vehicle had been reported as abandoned in the 1500 block of Fairfield Rd. The vehicle was recovered and returned to the school. Investigation is ongoing.
24-1954 Assault, Mischief, Utter Threats
On July 26, 2024, Oak Bay Police were called to the 2400 block of Esplanade Rd for reports of an Assault. Upon police arrival, a male suspect and Oak Bay Municipal workers were engaged in a heated verbal dispute. After police spoke with all parties, it was alleged that the male had broken the mirror on a District of Oak Bay vehicle and then punched the worker in the face. The male then threated other workers with a knife. The suspect was arrested for Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Mischief Under $5000 and Uttering Threats. He was released with conditions not to attend any Oak Bay Park and not to be withing 50m of any Oak Bay municipal worker or vehicle and to attend court in September. This matter is still under investigation and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
