The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 81 calls for service this week.

Collision

On June 3, 2024, the Oak Bay Police responded to a cyclist versus motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Cadboro Bay Rd and Bowker Ave. Through an investigation it was determined that the motor vehicle was stopped at the stop sign on Bowker Ave waiting to turn left onto Cadboro Bay Rd. The vehicle failed to yield the right of way to the cyclist who was Northbound on Cadboro Bay Rd. The vehicle pulled out striking the cyclist. The cyclist was transported to the hospital; however, it was determined they did not sustain any injuries and reported only muscle soreness.  The cyclist was wearing a helmet. The 54-year-old driver of the motor vehicle was charged with Fail to Yield on Left Turn S. 174 MVA $167.  The front fork of the bicycle was damaged as was the front quarter panel of the vehicle, with an estimated total damage of $5000. Fraud

On June 3, 2024, the Oak Bay Police received a report of a fraud. The complainant advised that they purchased items from Facebook Marketplace, by sending an e-transfer for $375. The seller advised the complainant to attend an address in Langford to pick up the items. The complainant attended the address, and the occupants knew nothing about the sale. The complainant checked the ad for the items, and it had been removed and communication stopped. The complainant advised they wanted the public to be aware of this scam to avoid any future victims. Impaired Driver

On June 6, 2024, at 0136 hours, the Oak Bay Police were on patrol on Foul Bay Rd near Allenby Rd, when police observed a Northbound vehicle on Foul Bay Rd that was driving without its rear taillights illuminated. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was identified as 39-year-old woman. The woman showed signs of having consumed alcohol and the Approved Screening Device Demand was made. The woman provided a suitable breath sample, and the subsequent reading was a “Fail”, which indicated that her blood alcohol level exceeded 100 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood. The woman was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (OB File 24-1377)
