Weekly Media Release July 15-21, 2013

Since July 15th, 2013, Oak Bay Police have had 113 calls for service.

On July 15th at 1:38 A.M., police responded to a three vehicle collision in the 2300 block of Beach Drive. A northbound 2005 Mercedes collided with a parked 2014 Subaru, pushing that into a second parked vehicle, a 1995 Toyota Tercel. The 43 year old male driver showed signs of alcohol consumption but refused to provide a breath sample. He was subsequently given a 90 day driving prohibition and the vehicle he was driving was impounded.

At 6:12 A.M. UVIC Security reported an overnight break-in to the MacLauren Building where a fenced locker that had contained energy drinks was entered. A small quantity of product was stolen. The break-in was discovered by custodial staff.

On July 16th at 7:14 A.M., police attended a business in the 2100 block of Oak Bay Avenue where a rock was thrown through the glass front door. Once inside that door, the same rock was used to shatter the interior locked door. Although entry was gained to the business, nothing appears to have been taken.

On June 16th at 9:22 A.M. The owner of a boat trailered in the 1300 block of Beach Drive reported that his 15 Horsepower outboard motor had been stolen. The estimated value is $1500.00.

On June 19th, a homeowner in the 700 block of Linkleas Avenue reported the theft of their gutters. The investigation continues however it is likely that a contractor attended the wrong address.

On June 19th, police were advised of a residential break and enter on Sunny Lane. Sometime overnight, persons unknown entered the residence and stole several bottles of liquor.

On June 19th, UVIC Security detained a male they caught attempting to steal a bicycle. Police attended and took custody of the male, who is well known to police. He was released on a Promise to Appear for court.

On June 20th, at 4:05 A.M. police received a report of a fawn lying in the middle of the road on Victoria Avenue and Central Avenue. Police attended and moved the deer to safety.

On June 20th at 6:47 P.M., police received a report of a missing elderly female with dementia in the 2200 block of Allenby Street. Three members searched the area and located the lady a few blocks away. She was transported home.

On June 20th at 9:44 P.M., police received a report of a break and enter in progress in the 900 block of Falkland Road. Members of Oak Bay, Saanich, and Victoria police departments searched the area, including a K9 unit. The suspect was not located. Described as a heavyset male wearing black. Last seen southbound on Falkland Road.
