Week of May 21st to May 27th

During this last week, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to 111 calls for service.

File# 2012-1849

On 2012-05-21 at 0920 hours, the Oak Bay Police Department received a report of a significant amount of clothing discarded on Foul Bay Road from Byron Street to Fort Street. The investigation showed that the clothes were taken from an unlocked storage bin behind a consignment store located on Oak Bay Avenue. All of the stolen clothing was recovered and returned to the store owner.

File# 2012-1853

On 2012-05-21 at approximately 1700 hours, a tenant in the 2000 block of Oak Bay Avenue had their ground level apartment unit entered by an unknown suspect. The suspect entered the suite through the living room window. The living room window was the point of entry and point of exit. The suspect stole an undisclosed amount of US currency, international currency, assortment of jewellery and a pocket watch.

File# 2012-1852

On 2012-05-21, a homeowner reported that overnight a culprit smashed his vehicle’s front passenger window and stole an IPhone that was in plain view.

File# 2012-1861

On 2012-05-21 at approximately 2100 hours, the Oak Bay Police Department received a report of a single vehicle crash at the intersection of Nottingham Road and Lansdowne Road. A 17 year old driver was driving northbound on Nottingham Road when the driver sped through the stop sign and failed to negotiate an intended right hand turn (eastbound) onto Lansdowne Road. The vehicle skidded across Lansdowne Road and smashed into a rock wall and continued on and smashed into a tree. The airbags deployed and there was severe front end damage to the vehicle. A violation ticket was issued to the driver for disobeying a stop sign, Section 186 of the Motor Vehicle Act (Fine: $167.00).

File# 2012-1907

On 2012-05-25 at approximately at 0830 hours, two Oak Bay Police officers observed a suspicious male walking eastbound in the 2300 block of Lansdowne Road. The male looked at the patrol vehicle an appeared nervous. The male was observed putting a plastic bag in his jacket pocket. While questioning the male a bag of marijuana was found on his possession. Police records showed that this male was on probation order for an unrelated criminal matter and one of the conditions was that he was not allowed to be in the possession of any drugs pursuant to the Controlled Drugs & Substance Act. The male was arrested and released on a Promise to Appear.

File# 2012-1938

On 2012-05-26 at 2000 hours, two males were observed drinking open liquor at Cattle Point. A violation ticket was issued for ‘Consume Liquor in a Public Place’, Section 40(1) pursuant to the Liquor Control & Licencing Act (Fine: $230.00).

File# 2012-1941

On 2012-05-26 at 2100 hours, three female minors were observed seated in a parked vehicle in the gravel parking lot of Oak Bay High School. The occupants inside the vehicle took ownership of the liquor that was seized. Two bottles of vodka along with two bottles of Growers Peach Cider were located inside the vehicle. The occupants received a violation ticket for ‘Minor in Possession’, Section 34(3) pursuant to the Liquor Control & Licencing Act (Fine: $230.00).

File# 2012-1947

On 2012-05-27 at 0100 hours, the Oak Bay Police Department set up a roadblock in the 2200 block of Cadboro Bay Road. A novice driver admitted to consuming one beer and the ASD (approved screening device) was administered which registered a 0.17 reading. The driver was served a 12 hour suspension and his vehicle was towed to a secure compound. The novice driver will receive a driving suspension between 1-3 months from the OSMV.
