During the week of April 29 – May 06, Oak Bay Police responded to 135 calls for service.
Throughout this past week, a number of vehicles were broken into with electronics, sunglasses and money being the target. Police are encouraging members of the public to ensure your vehicles are locked, and expensive items removed from the vehicle or placed out of sight. Most of the vehicles entered were unlocked.
This past week also saw two break and enters in the Oak Bay area. A business along Oak Bay Ave was broken into with cash stolen from the cash register. A house in the area of Oak Bay Ave and York Pl was also broken into and occurred sometime between 6-9PM. It appears the culprit entered the home through an unsecured front door, making off with jewelry and a laptop computer. Police are encouraging home owners to ensure their doors are locked when leaving the home, even for short periods of time.
On May 03 at approximately 145 a.m. a Patrol Officer stopped a motorist in the 2000 block of Cadboro Bay Rd. The motorist was given a road side breath test and as a result, was given a 24hr driving prohibition for drinking and driving. On May 04 at approximately 915 p.m. police received a report of an impaired driver. The driver was subsequently located in the area of Cavendish Ave. The motorist was given a roadside breath test, however, the motorist failed to provide a proper sample and as a result, was given a 90-day IRP and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
As this week is “Emergency Preparedness Week” police are encouraging everyone to review their own safety plans and become familiar with emergency services in your area, including contact phone numbers and contacts lists.
