Weekly Media Release October 6-13, 2013

Over this past week, Oak Bay Police Members (OBPD) responded to 79 calls for service.  Of those 79 service calls, there were five mischiefs, three of which were the result of unknown person(s) breaking side mirrors of vehicles.  There were also a number of false alarms, abandoned/false ”911” calls and various other service related type calls.

During this past week a number of motorists were issued violation tickets for speeding in school zones.  As a result, residents are reminded that school zones are in effect from 0800-1700hrs, Monday to Friday (except holidays).  The speed limit in a school zone is 30kph and carries a minimum fine of $196.

As Halloween approaches, Oak Bay residents are reminded that the use fireworks is prohibited in Oak Bay without a permit.   Oak Bay Bylaw # 4375 (Fireworks Regulation Bylaw, 2007), 

states that it is illegal to possess, discharge and sell fireworks, or firecrackers.  Fines for violations of the bylaw range from $100 to $500, which includes the loss of the fireworks.
