Weekly Media Release for Sept 29-Oct 5, 2014

On September 29th Oak Bay police received a report of theft of a diamond necklace valued at $13,000. The necklace went missing from a residence in the University Woods area. No apparent break-in was believed to have occurred but the investigation is ongoing.

On September 29th at 11:20 pm police were conducting speed enforcement in the 3500 block of Henderson Road when a vehicle was observed travelling at 90 km/hr on the 40 km/hr road. The driver was issued a violation ticket for Excessive Speed and the car was impounded for seven days.

On October 1st police checked a vehicle at Cattle Point and found the three occupants had been smoking marihuana. The driver was given a Standard Field Sobriety Test and failed. He was issued a 24 hour driving prohibition and the motor vehicle was towed.

On October 2nd at approximately 2:00 am an officer on foot patrol observed a Dodge Charger driving slowly and then accelerating to a high rate of speed on Beach Drive at Oliver St. A check of the licence plate revealed the vehicle had been stolen out of Victoria the same day. Police searched the area and located the vehicle abandoned on Newport Ave and arranged for towing for safe keeping. VicPD was advised of the recovery of the car.
