Weekly Media Release September 16 – 22, 2013

On September 16th, police responded to a report of a male consuming liquor on Foul Bay Road beside the liquor store. The investigating member located the intoxicated male drinking a bottle of rum, arrested the 62 year old male for public intoxication and transported him to cells to sober up.

On September 18th, a new wheelbarrow was stolen from a back yard in the 2100 block of Windsor Road. The wheelbarrow was valued at approximately $200. The investigation in on-going.

On September 18th, police received a report of theft that had occurred September 17th at the fitness studio at the Oak Bay Rec Centre. The complainant had left the watch, a black Ironman valued at $150, on a piece of fitness equipment, and when he returned, the watch was gone.

On September 20th, police responded to a complaint of Hit and Run in the 2500 block of Epworth Street. The complainant’s vehicle had sustained damage from an unknown vehicle that had reversed into it as it was parked on the street. A witness came forward and provided the licence plate of the offending vehicle. The owner of the other vehicle was contacted and admitted to the collision. The investigation continues.

On September 21st, police were called to the Oak Bay Marina where a group of approximately 15 cyclists/campers appeared to be setting up camp on the deck outside the coffee shop and were refusing to leave. Investigating members persuaded the group to move on. This same group was the subject of two more complaints over the weekend.

On September 21st, police received a report of a male sleeping in the complainant’s vehicle in the 2000 block of Cadboro Bay Road. The complainant woke the male before calling police. By the time investigating members arrived, the male had disappeared. The complainant discovered that the signal light lever had been broken off in his car. Police encourage people to call before engaging unfamiliar and possibly dangerous people in the interest of safety.
