Weekly News Briefs March 11-17, 2013

On March 12, 2013 police responded to a complaint of a break, enter and theft. A residence in the 1400 block of St. Patrick Street had been entered and an outboard 5.6 horsepower Seagull motor was stolen. No indication of forced entry.

On March 14, 2013 at approximately 11:12 am police responded to a collision between a motor vehicle and a cyclist on Foul Bay Road at the entrance into the Camosun College parking lot. In the 3100 block of Foul Bay Road. A 28 year old male resident of Oak Bay was cycling south on Foul Bay Road in a designated bicycle lane when he was over taken by a south bound 2008 Honda Civic being operated by a 28 yr old male resident of Victoria. Witnesses indicate the motor vehicle made a quick right turn into the parking lot of Camosun College shortly after passing the cyclist, causing the cyclist to run into the rear corner of the car. The cyclist received minor injuries to his wrist and elbow but was not transported to hospital. The driver of the Honda automobile was issued a violation ticket for “Driving without Consideration” which carries a fine of $196.00.

On March 15, 2013 police responded to the 3100 block of Henderson Road to a complaint of a theft from a motor vehicle. The motor vehicle involved had been left in the driveway unlocked and with a backpack on the back seat. The back pack contained a lap top computer which was stolen. Police remind the public to always lock your motor vehicles and never leave any property whatsoever inside the vehicle. To do so is an invitation for theft and possible damage to your vehicle.

On March 17th, 2013 police set up an impaired driving check stop shortly after midnight at Foul Bay Road and McNeill Ave. A 37 yr old male resident of Victoria was driving his 2004 Volvo and was checked by police. An odour of liquor was detected on the driver’s breath and subsequent roadside breath testing resulted in an Immediate 90 day Roadside Driving Prohibition. The driver’s motor vehicle was towed and seized for 30 days. Police remind the public that we are present on the streets 24 hours a day and the impaired driving check stops may be set up at any time, any where. Police encourage the driving public to consider use of public transport such as buses or taxis, or a sober friend should you partake in alcoholic beverages.
