Mischief
On July 30, 2023, Oak Bay Police Officers attended the 2400 block of Lansdowne Rd. after it was reported a man was damaging an exterior door of a residence. The man fled from police and was later located and apprehended under the mental health act as it was believed the man was suffering a mental health crisis. The man was transported to hospital for medical attention. This matter is still under investigation. (OBPD file 2023-2239).
Mental Health Crisis
On August 2, 2023, Oak Bay Police Officers responded to a report of a person suffering from a mental health crisis in their residence. Officers requested the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team, Crisis Negotiators, Westshore RCMP K9, and the Integrated Mental Health Crisis Response Team to assist to safely apprehend the individual under the Mental Health Act. The individual was apprehended without incident and transported to the hospital where they were able to receive additional care and further assessment. Unsafe Vehicle
On August 3, 2023, in the 1400 block of Beach Drive, an officer conducted a traffic stop and towed an unsafe vehicle after an unlicensed driver was attempting to drive their vehicle with a severely damaged windshield. The windshield damage was extensive and impaired the driver’s ability see out. The driver, a 35-year-old woman, was issued a violation ticket for driving without a license (fine $276) and her vehicle was towed for a mandatory safety inspection. Oak Bay Police remind vehicle owners and operators to ensure any spiderwebbed or cracked windshields do not impede the driver’s vision, or the vehicle may be subject to inspection and tow at the owner’s expense. House Fire
On August 4, 2023, Oak Bay Police were called to assist Oak Bay Fire Department with traffic direction related to an active house fire at 3000 block of Cadboro Bay Road. Oak Bay Fire Department and Saanich Fire Department contained and extinguished the fire. No one was injured in the incident. Extensive damage to property. (OBPD File 2023-2295)
UPDATE: Request to assist police to identify suspect.
Oak Bay Police previously reported, on July 7, 2023, Police investigated a break and enter to a residence on Lorne Terr. A debit card was one of the items stolen from the home and it was used in a fraudulent transaction shortly after the theft. Oak Bay Police have obtained photos of a possible suspect. Police are seeking assistance from the public to help identify the suspect involved in the fraudulent use of the debit card.
