The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 84 calls for service that week.

Break and Enter

On August 6, 2023, Oak Bay Police Department attended the 600 block of Beach Drive regarding a report of a Break and Enter.  In the early morning hours, an unknown suspect entered an unlocked mechanical room beside the garage and stole a “Wheel Speed Board” (electric skateboard).  Total Value of theft $900 (OBPD file 23-2311).

Excessive Speed

On August 7, 2023, Oak Bay Police Department were enforcing speed on Beach Dr near Newport Ave, which is a posted 40km/h zone. A vehicle was heard approaching at a high rate of speed. A speed measuring device was used to capture the speed of the vehicle and it registered 96km/hr. A traffic stop was conducted, and a violation Ticket for excessive speed (S. 148(1) MVA) in the amount of $368 was issued to the 17-year-old male driver who held a class 7 “N” driver’s licence.  The vehicle was impounded for 7 days (OBPD file 23-2330).

Fraud

On August 8, 2023, Oak Bay Police Department investigated a complaint of a “romance fraud scam”. Over the course of 8 months, the victim was manipulated and convinced to send $20,000.00 to a man she had met online. The victim was in the process of sending additional money to the man when her financial planner intervened and questioned her client’s intention to send a large sum of money to someone she had never met. Police would like to remind citizens to refer to the Canada Anti-Fraud website for helpful tips to assist with anti-fraud tips. This matter is still under investigation (OBPD file 23-2335).

Found Property

On August 8, 2023, Oak Bay Police Department received a pair of lost Apple Air pods that were found in the Willows Beach area.  Air pods have been placed into property. If anyone has lost a pair of Air pods and can identity them, please attend Oak Bay Police with receipt or proof of ownership to retrieve them (OBPD file 23-2340).

Break and Enter

On August 11, 2023, Oak Bay Police Department attended the 100 block of Prince Andrew Pl., regarding a Break and Enter.  The homeowners, upon returning from vacation, located a removed screen from an unlocked window and certain areas of the house had been rummaged through.  An unknown suspect stole various jewelry, coins, and foreign currency (OBPD file 23-2369).

Break and Enter

On August 12, 2023, Oak Bay Police officers attended the 2000 block of Oak Bay Ave. regarding a Break and Enter in progress.  The suspect, a 31-year-old Victoria man, was located and arrested without incident.  The man will be appearing in court in September to answer to charges related to this incident (OBPD file 23-2389).
