The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 89 calls for service during the week of September 16th to 22nd, 2024.
Traffic Incident
On September 18, 2024, at 8:54 a.m., police were conducting traffic enforcement on Cadboro Bay Road near Cranmore Road, a designated school zone with a speed limit of 30 km/h. A vehicle was stopped for travelling at 52 km/h. The driver parked in a no-parking zone, blocking a bike lane, and produced an expired driver’s licence.
As the vehicle was obstructing the bike lane and the driver was unable to locate a licensed driver to operate the vehicle, it was towed from the scene. The driver was issued a violation ticket for speeding in a school zone (S. 147(1)) with a fine of $196, and for driving without a valid licence (S. 24(1)) with a fine of $276.

Immediate Roadside Prohibition
On September 21, 2024, shortly before 10:15 a.m., officers were conducting patrols in the 1700 block of Beach Drive when a concerned citizen approached them. The citizen reported seeing a vehicle parked on Broom Drive with the driver appearing to be unconscious.
Police located the vehicle on the north side of Broom Drive near Beach Drive. The vehicle was running, and the driver was asleep in the driver’s seat. The driver woke and pressed the accelerator when police opened the door and instructed him to turn off the vehicle. The driver displayed signs of alcohol impairment.
Police administered the Approved Screening Device (ASD), which resulted in a “Fail” reading. The driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP), and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
