Attempted Theft of Automobile

On September 10, 2024, at 8:54 am, the Oak Bay Police received a report of a vehicle being broken into in the 1000 block of Monterey Ave. The complainant advised that the suspect was attempting to steal the vehicle. Police arrived and observed the male suspect attempting to “hot wire” the car. The 24-year-old man was arrested by police. The man was later released on conditions by police and set to appear in court on October 30, 2024. The Oak Bay Police are recommending charges of Theft of a Motor Vehicle S. 333.1(1) CC and Mischief S. 430(1)(a) CC (OB File 24-2473)

Excessive Speed

On September 14, 2024, at 1:57 am, the Oak Bay Police were conducting speed enforcement in the 800 block of Beach Dr, which is a posted 40km/h zone. Police observed a Northbound vehicle and estimated it to be travelling 90km/h. A Lidar laser unit was used to capture the speed of the vehicle, and it was noted to be travelling 86km/h. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was identified as a 23-year-old man. The man was issued a Violation Ticket for Excessive Speed S. 148(1) $368, and his Honda Accord was towed and impounded for 7 days. (OB File 24-2522)

The Oak Bay Police are reminding driver’s that school is back in session and police will be conducting enforcement in school zones. Please slow down, keep your head up and leave your phone alone. Speeding in school zones can result in fines starting at $196.
