OAK BAY POLICE BOARD ANNOUNCES NEW CHIEF CONSTABLE

Mayor Nils Jensen, Chair of the Oak Bay Police Board is pleased to announce that Staff Sergeant andrew Brinton has been selected to be the next Chief Constable for the District of Oak Bay.

Mayor Jensen made the announcement today, saying “Oak Bay is fortunate to have such a well-qualified individual to head up its Police Department.  “We are very pleased to have Andrew Brinton coming on board.  His commitment to community policing and his collaborative work with community groups and the municipality in Powell River will serve him well in this new role.   The Oak Bay Police Board was impressed with his wholistic approach to addressing crime and community issues.”

Staff Sergeant Brinton is currently the Detachment Commander of the Powell River RCMP Detachment and has held that position for the past five years.  In this role he leads a detachment of 26 officers and 9 civilian support staff.

Staff Sergeant Brinton has 32 years of service with the RCMP all of which has been in British Columbia.  He has served as the Operations NCO at the West Coast Marine Detachment, a Watch Commander in Parksville, and a Detachment Commander in Boston Bar.  Prior to this he served in Gibsons, Whistler and Burnaby.

The Oak Bay Police Board conducted an extensive search for a new Chief Constable and received expressions of interest from a group of very well-qualified police officers from across Canada.

Staff Sergeant Brinton is expected to take up his duties in April 2014.
