At approximately 1:30 pm on Tuesday, September 30 the Oak Bay Police responded to a 911 call of a break and enter in progress in the 800 block of Foul Bay Rd, where a resident found a male breaking into his house through a window. The male then fled and the resident chased him out of the house and through the yard. They crossed Foul Bay Rd which is the Oak Bay Municipal border, and the homeowner caught up with the suspect in the backyard of a neighboring house in the Victoria area.
A struggle ensued during which the suspect produced a knife and slashed the homeowner across the face, causing a laceration. A passerby saw the commotion and stopped to assist and called the police. Police were on scene and the suspect was in custody within 2 minutes. The homeowner was taken to hospital for treatment of the laceration and the suspect was held in custody for a court appearance on Wednesday.
This is the second such incident in Oak Bay in the past six weeks, where a resident has found a suspect in their home and been injured when trying to apprehend them. It is not advisable to take action against these perpetrators as they can be very unpredictable. We encourage people to be vigilant and observant and to be a good witness and leave the dangers of dealing with these suspects to the police.
