Severe Weather Conditions

September 30, 2013

The severe weather conditions hit Oak Bay hard last night. A number of trees were toppled and power lines were knocked down as a result of the high winds and heavy rain.

The areas affected were:

  • Beach Drive and Humber  (tree down)
  • 2300 Block of Windsor Road (tree down, electrical wires damaged)
  • 800 Block of Oliver (tree down, electrical wires damaged)
  • 2300 Block of Cedar Hill Cross Road (tree down, lamp standard damaged)
  • 1000 Block St David Street (large branch down)

Oak Bay Public Works, Oak Bay Parks, Oak Bay Fire Department, and BC Hydro worked together to assist with the various issues brought on by the high winds.

Remember, when around downed power lines:

Stay back and call 911: If you come across a fallen power line, an exposed underground power line, or any object comes into contact with a power line, stay back 10 metres (33 feet) and call 911,  stay calm and still until help arrives.
