On Saturday, September 28th, Oak Bay Police attended the 900 block of Foul Bay when a tree came down on some power lines. When the member arrived he found someone trapped in a vehicle as a result of the tree falling. BC Hydro attended the scene and disconnected the power. Fortunately no one was injured and the vehicle sustained minor damage. Oak Bay Parks attended and removed the tree.
On Wednesday, September 25th , the Oak Bay Police received a complaint of a male driver who was playing a flute while operating his vehicle. The person observed this unusual driving activity, followed the vehicle into Oak Bay from downtown Victoria. The driver was never located but the owner of the vehicle was contacted and advised of the incident. Playing the flute while driving doesn’t fall under the distracted driving legislation but it does fall under driving without due care and attention.
On Tuesday, September 24th, a bicycle was stolen after being properly secured in the 1700 block of Elgin Road. The suspect was able to cut the lock.
A secured vehicle parked in the 2100 Fair Street was forcefully entered overnight and approximately $500 worth of items was removed.
With the days becoming shorter, those of you who commute on a bicycle should be equipped with an appropriate light. Bicycles operated on a highway between ½ hour after sunset and ½ hour before sunrise must have the following equipment:
- a lighted lamp mounted on the front and under normal atmospheric conditions capable of displaying a white light visible at least 150 m in the direction the cycle is pointed;
- a red reflector of a make or design approved by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia for the purposes of this section;
- a lighted lamp, mounted and visible to the rear, displaying a red light.
