Weekly Media Release

During the week of July 8th to 14th, 2013 the Oak Bay Police responded to 96 calls for assistance.

Thefts:

On July 11th Police received a report of a theft from an unlock locker at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre. Various personal belongings were stolen from the locker by an unknown culprit. The following day all the items were found discarded in the area and returned to the owner.

A local business owner contacted police to report items had been stolen from their store and they believe they were taken just prior to closing on July 10th. Items taken were two sculptures. One was a bronze coloured depicting a woman standing in the wind and the other was smaller, black and depicted a man standing in the breeze.

On July 12th a report was received of a theft that occurred sometime within the last week from a boat moored at the Oak Bay Marina. A culprit gained access to a secured area on the boat where a number of items were stored. In total 3 fishing reels and 2 down riggers were stolen.

Sometime during the afternoon of July 10th a red Kona Mountain bike was stolen from an unlocked shed in the 2100 blk of Fair St.

Impaired – Counter Attack Road Blocks

On July 11th police conducted a road block which resulted in one driver being issued a 24 hour driving prohibition for drugs, namely marihuana, after failing a standard field sobriety test. A 3 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition was issued to another driver.

Beach Fires:

During the past week members of the Oak Bay Police Department have responded to beach fires which are not permitted in Oak Bay. This is the time of year when we see an increase in beach fires which is also a time when people need to exercise greater care due to the hot, dry weather.
