During the week of July 1st to 7th, 2013 the Oak Bay Police responded to 110 calls for assistance.
Theft of Bikes:
On July 2nd Police received a report of a locked bike that was stolen from outside of one of the buildings at UVic. The bike is described as a 24 speed army green Opus Orpheo and is 6 months old.
Sometime overnight on July 5th an unlocked child’s bike was stolen from the side of the garage at a residence in the 200 block of Beach Dr. The bike is described as being a child’s 20” Supercycle mountain bike, silver with blue details, and had electrical tape on the grips.
Break & Enter:
On July 5th police received a report to an attempt break and enter into a backyard shed on Hewlett Pl. The incident happened sometime overnight. The homeowners noticed a ladder, that is stored on the lawn beside the shed, was leaning against the shed providing access to the upper level. Nothing was taken.
A reminder to anyone who stores their ladders outside that it is strongly recommended that the ladder is secured to prevent any unauthorized use. Ladders provide culprits easy access to upper levels which are normally left insecure during the summer season.
Impaired – Counter Attack Road Blocks
On July 5th received information that a male was consuming alcohol contrary to his release conditions. The male was located by police as he was leaving in his vehicle and the male driver was found to be impaired. He was issued a 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle will be impounded for 30 days.
On July 7th police conducted a road block and along with several written warnings a 3 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition was issued.
Police will be continuing to conduct road blocks so if you are going out to have a few drinks make sure you plan ahead and identify a designated driver or call a cab.
