April 25, 2017
On April 25, 2017 shortly before 7:30 AM the Oak Bay Police responded to a 911 call originating from a home in the 2500 block of Esplanade, near Willows Beach in Oak Bay.
Upon their arrival, police discovered a 45 year old woman, who was a resident of the home, who had suffered significant injuries to her upper body. The woman was transported by ambulance to the hospital and underwent surgery for her injuries. The home has been the subject of heavy police presence since that 911 call was received as the investigation into this incident continues.
On the evening of April 26, 2017, the woman was interviewed by the Detectives assigned to this case. Police now know the following:
Shortly before 7:30 AM on April 25th the woman was in her home and heard noises coming from the kitchen area. The woman went to investigate the noises and discovered an unknown male in her kitchen. The woman confronted the unknown male and an altercation took place resulting in the woman being struck several times with an edged weapon, which may have been a machete.
The woman has provided the following description of the male who she encountered in her home as follows:
White male, in his 20’s, wearing a brown jacket, khaki pants, and a blue and white bandana.
By way of the service agreement that exists between the Oak Bay Police Department and the Saanich Police Department, the Saanich Police Department Detective Division have taken the lead role on this investigation.
There are a number of resources from both police departments dedicated to solving this crime. These include officers from the Patrol Divisions of both departments, officers from the Detective Division, Forensic Identification Section, and Intelligence Section of the Saanich Police Department, and members from the Integrated Crowd Management Unit.
The victim and her family are requesting privacy and do not wish to speak with any media agencies at this time. If the wishes of the family change then we will advise the media accordingly at that time.

April 28th, 2017
The Oak Bay Police conducted a roadblock in the 800 block of Beach Drive and issued a 3-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) and their vehicle was impounded for 3 days.
A second driver at the same location was also arrested for impaired driving, had his vehicle impounded, and was issued a 24-hour license suspension.
April 29th, 2017
The Oak Bay Police conducted another roadblock at Foul Bay Rd., and Watson Street and issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) and their vehicle was impounded for 90 days.
The Oak Bay Police conducted a subsequent roadblock at Beach Drive and Goodwin Avenue, in Oak Bay, where they issued two 3-day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRP) as well a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) where their vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
April 30th, 2017
The Oak Bay Police conducted another roadblock at Cadboro Bay and Eastdowne Avenue and issued a 3-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) and their vehicle was not impounded.
This targeted enforcement resulted in the discovery of seven alcohol related driving offences within a three-day period. The Oak Bay Police are again reminding the public to be cognizant that a zero tolerance approach will be taken to those who choose to drink and drive.
April 30, 2017
On Sunday, April 30, 2017 the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a call for service in the area of McNeill Bay. The Oak Bay Police Department and Saanich Police Department Detective Division were in the area conducting an investigation.
At that time the public was not be able to access the beach and there was traffic disruption along this portion of Beach Drive. Police were asking for the public to avoid the area if possible. At this time the Oak Bay Police would like to offer their appreciation to the public that were inconvenienced by these efforts.
More information will be released when available. Police anticipate having a possible update by late Monday May 1, 2017.
