The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 65 calls for service this week.

Fraud Incident

On December 14, 2024, the Oak Bay Police received a report of fraud. The complainant reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be from the “CRA,” demanding immediate payment for alleged outstanding accounts. The complainant sent $2,000 via courier to the “CRA” before realizing this was fraud. However, police quickly intervened, contacting the courier company and successfully stopping the shipment, resulting in the return of the funds to the complainant. (OB File 24-3518)

Immediate Roadside Prohibition

On December 14, 2024, at 9:00 PM, the Oak Bay Police conducted an Impaired Driving Road Check on Oak Bay Ave. Officers stopped a 33-year-old male driver and detected the odor of alcohol on his breath. After administering the Approved Screening Device test, which resulted in a “Fail” reading, indicating a blood alcohol level of 100 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood or more, the driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition. His vehicle, a Toyota Rav 4, was towed and impounded for 30 days. (OB File 24-3523)
