On December 18th, at 4:40 pm, police were called to assist on a call received by the ambulance service of a man who was threatening to harm himself. After holding a knife to his throat, he then ran from his residence to a local beach to jump in ocean. The responding officer was able to locate him before he reached the water and was able to apprehend him under the Mental Health Act. He was transported to hospital and held for observations and treatment.
On December 19th at 8:45 pm a resident of the 3000 block of Larkdowne Rd called police to report a theft from his backyard. Police attended and learned that a black and orange Grays brand sports bag containing at least three field hockey sticks that had been left outside the back door of the residence had been taken between the hours of 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm. As the back yard was fenced, it is believed that access was gained off of Larkdowne Rd. The area was checked but there are no known suspects at this time.
On December 19th a male reported he just discovered that someone had used his debit card in November at the ATM of the CIBC at 2224 Oak Bay Ave, to make a false deposit and then withdraw $200. The man had noticed his bank card missing last week and he last used the card in mid-November of this year. This fraud and theft occurred in the early hours of Nov. 15, 2013. No suspects have been identified yet.
On December 20th at 3:25 pm, an Oak Bay resident reported that a male in his 30’s came to her door asking if she wanted to buy food. No identification, no product name or company name was provided. The man was driving an older model grey Nissan pick-up with a wooden box in the back. Patrols of the area were negative for any suspects. The resident is the Block Watch Captain for her block and has advised the neighbors in the area.
On December 21st, in the 2000 block of Cedar Hill Cross Rd, a resident reported the theft of several wrapped Christmas gifts that they had left in their unlocked car in their driveway. The resident was only away from the car for one hour between 7:30 am and 8:30 am. There was no damage to the car, but the value of the stolen gifts was $650. Police remind Christmas shoppers to not leave any gifts in view and unattended in their cars for any length of time. Thieves actively walk the streets looking for opportunities like this.
