Firearms Acquisition Licences Expire:
The Oak Bay Police Department recently received notification from the Canadian Firearms Registry that two residents who reside in Oak Bay have allowed their Firearms Acquisition Licences (FAC) to expire. The residents will be required to either renew their licences or turn over their restricted firearms for disposal. Residents who possess restricted firearms are reminded to keep their FAC’s current and to unload and lock all firearms. Hitchhiker Arrest:
On December 12th, the Oak Bay Police received a call regarding a male hitchhiking on the side of Foul Bay Road near Middowne Road. A detailed description provided by the complainant assisted members attending the location find the hitchhiking male. As it turned out the male, who is in 30’s, was bound by a curfew from 9 pm to 7 am. The male will be appearing before the courts for breaching his Conditional Sentence Order as well as breaching his Probation Order.
Cyclist with a Surgical Mask:
On December 9th the Oak Bay Police received a second hand complaint of a male riding a bicycle, wearing a surgical mask and looking into vehicles with a flashlight. Members of the Oak Bay Police were quick to respond but were not successful in locating the male.
This incident is an excellent reminder during the Christmas season to:
• Park your car in well‐lit, traveled areas
• Keep valuables and gifts out of site in the trunk, and do not to leave them in the vehicle for long periods of time
• Don’t leave your keys in the car while it is running
• Use a steering‐wheel lock and/or car alarm to make your vehicle less attractive to thieves
• Ensure your doors are locked (and windows on child‐lock) once everyone is inside to avoid unwanted visitors from entering your vehicle.
