On February 7, 2022, Oak Bay Police responded to a report of a break and enter that occurred between the evening of Friday February 4, 2022, and the morning of February 7, 2022, near the 2000 block of Cotswold Rd. Sometime over the weekend, unknown suspects forced their way into the secured garage area of the home and stole construction tools and equipment. Neighbourhood enquiries were made for video of the area and anyone who may have noticed suspicious activity over the weekend. To date no suspects have been identified. Just before 7:00am on February 9, 2022, the driver of an older model green Subaru Forrester, parked in the 600 block of Beach Drive, opened the driver side door and an east bound, newer model, white, 4 door sedan struck the open car door causing approximately $3000.00 damage. The suspect vehicle did not stop. A licence plate was not obtained. Officers responding to the call were unable to locate the white sedan. The driver of the green Subaru was not injured however his vehicle was not drivable and required a tow. It is likely the passenger side front right quarter panel of the suspect vehicle would have sustained noticeable and significant damage. If you find yourself in the unfortunate circumstance of losing both your cell phone and wallet at the same time, Oak Bay is a pretty good place to do so. On February 9, 2022, shortly before 10:00am, an Oak Bay resident called police to report they had found a cell phone and wallet near their home on Falkland Road. The responding Oak Bay Police Officer was able to locate the owner and return both items a short time later. (Oak Bay Police File 2022-382)
A 21-year-old Oak Bay man will be seeking alternative transportation for the next several days after he was pulled over for speeding on Foul Bay Rd near Allenby Rd just after midnight on February 10, 2022. The driver was caught travelling at a speed of 96km/hr in a 50km/hr zone. The man issued a violation ticket for excessive speed (Sec.148(1) MVA $368 +3 points) and his vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. (Oak Bay Police File 2022-388)
Oak Bay Police Officers responded to several 911 “misdials” this week. A friendly reminder to everyone if you accidentally call 911 do not hang up. Please remain on the line and assist the 911 operator with the details of your misdial. Operators can then advise police of the circumstance of how the 911 call was placed and then be available to take the next 911emergency call. Don’t be alarmed if Oak Bay Police call you to follow up and request to meet you in person. Police will do this to confirm there is no emergency.
