On February 14th, 2022, Oak Bay Police received a report of an online scam. A local resident was searching for a motorhome and came across a listing on Craigslist. A wire transfer was sent in the amount of $16,000 to purchase the motorhome. The sale is believed to be fraudulent. Matter is still under investigation.

On February 16th, 2022, the Oak Bay Police Department received a report of identity theft at the CIBC, Oak Bay Ave. The complainant discovered that someone had stolen his passport, study permit and a BC identification card. He later received a phone call from the bank advising that someone had tried to use his identification to withdraw $41 from his account. Police are looking to obtain CCTV of the suspect.

On February 17th, 2022, an Oak Bay Police Officer was conducting traffic enforcement at Foul Bay Rd and Carnavon St when he observed a Subaru Outback speeding in a 50km/h zone. The vehicle was pulled over and the officer could smell liquor emanating from the driver. An ASD was administered which showed a “FAIL” reading. The 53-year-old male driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, a 30-day Vehicle Impound and a violation ticket for speeding in a municipality.

On February 17th, 2022, Oak Bay Police received a report of a theft from a business on Oak Bay Avenue. The suspect stole a pair of Maui Jim Byron Bay sunglasses valued at $300. Police reviewed CCTV footage. The suspect is described as a black male, medium build wearing a blue surgical mask, black hoodie, high visibility jacket and pants with reflective striping, black boots and carrying a stop sign. This matter is still under investigation and police are waiting for CCTV video.

On February 19th, 2022, at approximately 5pm, Oak Bay Police Officers responded to a report of a 74-year-old male with dementia who went missing from his residence. Police officers were immediately in the area looking for the male who had left on foot. The male was located 90 minutes later by a local resident and returned home safely.
