Weekly Media Release for Feb. 21 – 27, 2022

On February 23rd, police responded to a residence for a victim who had been assaulted by a 27 year old male who is known to him. The victim received a significant injury to his face as well as a broken wrist. The assailant was taken into custody as soon as police arrived and is now facing charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, forcible entry, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The male assailant has been remanded until he appears before the courts at a future date. (OBPD file 2022-538)

On February 25th, a complainant reported that his dinghy was stolen from his residence in the 2500 block of Estevan Ave. The boat has “ocean oasis” written on the bottom of the hull. A compressor, four oars, and four stroke motor were also stolen at the time. Please contact the Oak Bay Police at 250-592-2424 if you locate this boat. (OBPD file 2022-560)

On February 26th, a complainant reported a vehicle being driven erratically at Cedar Hill X Rd/Cadboro Bay Rd. It was reported the driver drove through a red light and at one point was driving on the wrong side of the road. Police circulated the area but did not locate the vehicle. Unfortunately, no license plate was obtained. (OBPD file 2022-570)

On February 27th, there were three different reports of personal items being stolen from the Oak Bay Recreation Center. Two of the thefts occurred from the female change room. One theft occurred in the morning, another in the afternoon, and the last at night. One of the complainants later reported that there had been fraudulent charges on bank cards that had been taken. Files are still under investigation. (OBPD files 2022-578/584/587 refer)

If you dial 9-1-1 please make sure to stay on the line until you speak with an operator. If you hang up prior to speaking with the operator, it is considered an abandoned 9-1-1 call and police will have to follow up with you to confirm that everything is fine.

This past week our school liaison officer was busy taking part in multiple school meetings including one with a teacher to prepare a presentation for upcoming grade 12 students. Our school liaison officer is also part of a national working group called the Canadian Police for Youth Network (Twitter: @CanPolice4Youth). The group holds regular meetings on-line and discusses initiatives and ideas on how to best serve the kids/youths of their designated jurisdictions.
