The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 87 calls for service this week.

Theft from Open House Prompts Prevention Reminder

Oak Bay Police are investigating the theft of approximately $6,200 worth of jewellery reported missing following an open house, reported to police on August 12, 2026. The theft is believed to have occurred while members of the public were touring the residence.

Open houses can create opportunities for theft when large numbers of visitors are moving through a home. Homeowners are encouraged to remove or securely store jewellery, cash, financial documents, prescription medications, keys, and other valuables before hosting an open house. Consider using a safe, locking valuables in a secure location, or temporarily storing high-value items off-site. Residents may also wish to speak with their realtor about visitor sign-in procedures and strategies for monitoring access to the home during showings. Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact Oak Bay Police. (File 2026-2420)

These highly visible patrols and enforcement activities support crime prevention, encourage public engagement, and help enhance safety throughout Oak Bay.
