The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 62 calls for service this week.
Excessive Speed
On the 12th of December 2023 at approximately 1:11am, police observed a motor vehicle travelling northbound on Henderson Ave at a speed of 88km/h in the posted 40km/h zone. A traffic stop was initiated, and the N driver was issued Violation Tickets for excessive speed under section 148(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act ($368) and driving contrary to conditions under section 25 (15) of the Motor Vehicle Act ($218) as he had more passengers than stipulated in the regulations for a N driver. The vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
Parcel Theft
On the 13th of December 2023 Oak Bay Police were advised of a theft that occurred on December 6th, 2023. The complainant advised that a package as stolen from in front of his garage door in the 2700 block of Foul Bay Rd. Police would like to remind members of the public to be especially mindful of package deliveries over the holidays. If you are not home ask a trusted neighbour or friend to remove packages when delivered and store them somewhere. Alternatively provide a discrete or hidden location for packages to be delivered and provide that information in the delivery instructions.
Excessive Speed
On the 13th of December 2023 at approximately 9:52pm, Police were conducting speed enforcement on Beach Dr near Newport Ave. A vehicle was observed travelling north bound on Beach Dr and reached a top speed of 82km/h in the posted 40km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver issued a Violation Ticket for excessive speed under section 148(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act ($368) and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
