This is the media release for the week of December 5 to December 10, 2023. The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 54 calls for service this week.

Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

On December 9, 2023, at 5:52pm, the Oak Bay Police Department received a report of an impaired driver in the 1100 Block of Beach Dr. The resident reported seeing a 61-year-old man consuming alcohol and driving away from the area a short time later. Police located the man and his vehicle a short distance away on Windsor Road.  During the investigation, police determined the man’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The man was arrested for impaired driving and refused to provide a breath sample. As a result, Oak Bay Police are recommending charges of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) and Refusal to Provide a Breath Sample contrary to section 320.28 of the Criminal Code of Canada. Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

On December 9, 2023, at 8:24 pm, the Oak Bay Police received a report of an impaired driver in the 2000 block of Milton St. The witness reported following a  vehicle that was swerving excessively and ran a stop sign after nearly striking two parked cars. The witness continued to update police of the man’s location. Police located the man on Milton St.  Upon speaking with the 69-year-old-male driver and subsequent investigation, the driver provided a breath sample roadside and “blew a fail” on an Approved Screening Device.  As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside probation.
