Motor Vehicle Collision / Immediate Roadside Prohibition
On December 2, 2024, at 1:01 am, the Oak Bay Police responded to a single vehicle collision in the 3200 block of Beach Dr. The vehicle had gone off road and struck a light post. Once on scene police identified the driver as a 22-year-old female. Police formed a suspicion that the female had alcohol in her body and demanded a breath sample. The female provided a breath sample, and the subsequent reading was a “Fail”, which indicated her blood alcohol level exceeded 100 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The female was issued a 90-day Immediate Driving Prohibition, a Violation Ticket for No Driver’s Licence, Section 24(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act, with a fine of $276 and the vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days. There were no injuries to the driver or the two passengers. (OB File 24-3388)

The complainant advised there was a person sleeping under a blanket and there was a handgun visible beside them. Given the proximity to Oak Bay High School, the school was placed in a hold and secure state. The nearby bank was evacuated. The Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team attended and arrested the 27-year-old male suspect for Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose Section 88(1) of the Criminal Code, without issue.
