Weekly Media Release for Dec. 5 – Dec. 11, 2022

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 85 calls for service this week.

On December 5th and 6th, 2022, a business located in the 1700 block of Elgin Rd was broken into. Both times the suspect targeted recycled pieces of metal pipes. The suspect was captured on CCTV and both matters are still under investigation. OB File 22-3743 & 22-3753

On December 8th, 2022, an Oak Bay resident contacted police to report her purse had been stolen from her vehicle while it was parked in the 500 block of Monterey Ave. The theft took place sometime between 12:00pm and 4:30pm. The purse had been hidden under a blanket on the front seat however the vehicle was not secure and locked. There were no witnesses or suspects identified related to this theft. On December 9th, 2022, at 1:00 am, members of the Oak Bay Police Department were on routine patrol when they observed a 53-year-old male who was known to be on a Conditional Sentence Order (this is a jail sentence served in the community), for a fraud conviction with a curfew of 10:00 pm to 8:00 am.  The matter has been forwarded to the male’s probation officer and if a judge is convinced the offender broke one or more of the conditions, the remaining time may be served in jail. During the week, the Oak Bay Police and the Oak Bay Fire were kept busy with hazardous conditions because of the high winds. Oak Bay Police and Emergency services responded to issues with electrical wires and downed trees. The Police and Fire would like to thank the public for adhering to the direction of the emergency services during these hazardous situations.
